Brookside Repose

BROOKSIDE REPOSE    I am honored to let you know,  Brookside Repose been selected for the 2022 Tonalism Today Exhibition (January 31 - February 18  at the beautiful Salmagundi Club in New York .    Perhaps you'd enjoy knowing a little bit more about why I chose this beautiful place to paint.    

 It kind of goes like this.  It's was the Autumn of 2020, Covid was still very much a part of our lives, and of course, still is. I love painting outside,  and had this yearning to get away, forget Covid for a while,  and to find a river or creek somewhere that was just too beautiful, not to paint. 

My husband and I love the Sierra Mountains in California, where we have camped and hiked for years. I knew I'd find just what I was looking for and fall color was probably at it's peak. So off we went.   My husband and I drove to Bishop, found our favorite motel, and luckily it was open for business.   To say the least, I was excited to know, tomorrow, I would explore and maybe, hopefully, find my creek in the high country.  

Early the next morning, we drove up towards South Lake,  where I've painted many times over the years and knew the beauty I'd find. On the way up, the creeks, rushing down the mountainsides were everywhere.  There was so much beauty it was hard to know what to choose.

I found many beautiful places, as I always do here in the mountains.  I walked around and lingered, getting into the beauty of it all.  Finally, I decided on a place with a large rock outcropping, overlooking this peaceful brook. I sat down, watched and listened to the melody of water skipping merrily over the rocks as it found it's way down the mountainside.  This was my place and the rest is history.

I wanted to share a little of my thoughts and perhaps Brookside Repose finds a way into your heart.   I returned two days in a row, to finish most of this piece, on location.  Enjoy and thanks for your interest.
